Land of Green

“Guinevere, look at our land and our people,” Juliana said gently to her granddaughter.

She held Guinevere close in her arms as they stood upon the grassy hill overlooking the town. Below them, the people moved through their daily lives, farmers tending to their fields, children laughing along the paths, and families gathering near their homes.

The warm sunlight stretched across the valley, painting the land in shades of gold and green.

Guinevere gazed down at the town in silence, her young eyes filled with wonder.

“This is our home,” She whispered. “Every river, every tree, every field… and every person you see below us is part of what we must protect.”

Guinevere looked up at her grandmother. “Why, Grandma?”

She smiled softly, though a hint of sadness lingered in her eyes. “Because one day, my dear Guinevere, this land may depend on you.”

The Land of Green was a large village that was part of the Kingdom of Kallistar, Empire of Theodora . It was a beautiful land surrounded by majestic mountains, peaceful valleys, and flowing rivers. More than its natural beauty, the Land of Green was known for its people, who valued Grace, Resilience, Empathy, Excellence, and Nobility. The five principles that shaped their way of life.

The land was blessed with abundant natural resources. Its forests were filled with towering trees, its orchards produced delicious fruits, and its fertile gardens provided vegetables for the people. Vast rice fields stretched across the valleys, while the rivers supplied fresh water to the villages.

Because of its lush landscapes, abundant resources, and the noble values of its people, the region became known throughout Theodora as the Land of Green.

The Land of Green was also known for a rare creature that lived nowhere else in the world, the Lumoren.

The Lumoren was a delicate, light-green creature with the body structure of a flying squirrel, the gentle face of a rabbit, and the flowing tail of a fish. They drifted silently through the air during the dusk, gliding between trees and valleys as though carried by the evening breeze.

Lumorens survived by absorbing moisture and consuming flower petals, which they used not only to nourish themselves but also to sustain the small plants that grew upon their bodies. Wherever they appeared, flowers seemed to bloom more brightly, and forgotten patches of nature slowly came back to life. Because of this, many people believed that the Lumoren was a creature blessed by ancient magic.

There was also an old legend whispered among the people of Green. A tale of a spirit who vanished long ago, a mysterious being said to have possessed the ancient Magic of Nature. According to the legend, the spirit once watched over the land and blessed its forests, rivers, fields, and living creatures.

Although the spirit had disappeared centuries ago, many believed its magic still remained within the soil. Perhaps that was why the Land of Green continued to flourish.

But on the very day Guinevere was brought into this world, something extraordinary happened.

As the newborn child rested inside the house of Greenvale, a brilliant green light suddenly descended from the sky, illuminating the house where Guinevere lay. The mysterious light could be seen from across the village, leaving the people of Green astonished as they witnessed the unusual phenomenon.

For a moment, the entire land seemed to fall silent.

The people believed the event was no coincidence. According to the ancient legend, the spirit of the land, which had vanished long ago, had returned for a single purpose, to bestow its ancient Magic of Nature upon Guinevere. From that day forward, whispers spread throughout Greenvale.

They believed Guinevere had been chosen by the spirit itself and that, one day, she would become the Guardian of Green, the protector of the land, its people, and the living nature that had sustained them for generations.

To the people of Green, Guinevere's birth was not simply the arrival of a child. It was the beginning of a prophecy. And the people's beliefs were mostly right.

Guinevere had indeed been chosen as the future Guardian of Green, destined to protect the land and its people. But there was another truth hidden behind her birth, one far greater than anyone had imagined.

She had not only been chosen as the Guardian. She had been chosen as the vessel of the Land Spirit of Green.

As Guinevere grew older, the people of Greenvale began to notice something strange. Her appearance slowly started to change, day by day, year by year.

The reddish hair she was born with, once soft and rosy like the petals of a rose, gradually darkened until it became black as obsidian. Yet among the darkness remained a single green strand, shimmering whenever it caught the light.

Her bluish, ocean-colored eyes also began to change. The gentle blue slowly faded, replaced by a brilliant emerald green.

The transformation continued as she grew older, leaving the people both fascinated and unsettled.

Then the elders discovered something within an ancient book that had been preserved for generations. According to the old writings, the Land Spirit of Green possessed hair as dark as obsidian, marked by a strand of green, and eyes that shone like emeralds.

Guinevere's appearance matched the description exactly. The resemblance was too precise to be a coincidence. The people began to whisper that the spirit had not truly vanished. Perhaps it had been waiting all along, waiting for a vessel to carry its spirit once again.

On Guinevere's eighth birthday, a grand celebration was held throughout the Land of Green. People from every corner of the Land of Green gathered to celebrate the special day. The streets were decorated with green ribbons, flowers, and lanterns, while families prepared delicious food and children filled the village with laughter and excitement.

But the people of Green did not celebrate Guinevere as the Guardian of Green, nor did they celebrate her as the Vessel of the Land Spirit. They celebrated her simply as Guinevere, a young girl who had been brought into this world as a blessing.

Although the people had every reason to call her the Guardian or treat her differently because of the destiny believed to await her, they deliberately chose not to.

They believed Guinevere deserved a childhood. So, instead of bowing before her or placing the weight of her future upon her shoulders, they treated her like any other child in the Land of Green. She was free to laugh, play, run through the fields, and celebrate alongside the other children.

To the people of Green, her destiny could wait. For that day, she was not a guardian.

She was not a vessel. She was simply an eight-year-old girl surrounded by people who loved her.

“Guinevere~ Happy Birthday!~”

A cheerful voice called out as a girl suddenly wrapped her arms tightly around Guinevere from behind.

It was Athea Vaelcrest Iverwyh, Guinevere’s best friend and a year younger than her. Athea was known for her bubbly personality, friendliness, endless chatter, and bright, positive attitude. To Guinevere, however, Athea was more than just a best friend.

She was a sister, not by blood, but by heart.

“Athea, you're hugging me too tight!” Guinevere protested, struggling to free herself from Athea’s enthusiastic embrace.

Athea giggled before finally letting her go.

“Oh, sorry!” she said, though the wide smile on her face showed that she wasn't very sorry at all.

She then pulled out a small red box decorated with a yellow ribbon and carefully handed it to Guinevere.

“This is for you!”

Guinevere's eyes brightened as she accepted the gift. “Thank you for the present, Athea. I'll treasure it forever.” She immediately wrapped her arms around Athea in a warm hug.

Athea smiled and hugged her back.

For the two girls, it was more than just a birthday celebration. It was another precious memory of a friendship that felt like family.

While Guinevere and Athea were still hugging, a familiar voice called out from across the gathering.

“Guinevere, my dear!”

Guinevere immediately recognized the voice.

She released Athea and turned toward her grandmother. With a bright smile, she ran through the crowd until she reached her.

Her grandmother gently took her hand and led her toward the center of the celebration, where everyone could see them. The conversations slowly faded as the crowd turned their attention toward the two of them.

Guinevere's grandmother smiled warmly.

“Happy birthday, my dear Guinevere.”

Her voice was gentle and filled with affection.

She then gave a heartfelt speech, speaking about how grateful she was to see her granddaughter grow into a kind and joyful young girl. She offered Guinevere her blessing and presented her with a special gift, reminding her that no matter what the future held, she would always be loved by her family and the people of Green.

When her grandmother finished, the crowd erupted into applause.

“Happy birthday, Guinevere!”

“May you have many more wonderful years!”

“Happy birthday!”

One after another, Guinevere's parents, uncles, and aunts approached her. Each greeted her warmly and handed her a gift.

Guinevere's heart filled with happiness.

She looked around at the smiling faces surrounding her and felt incredibly blessed. She had never imagined that so many people would come together just to celebrate her.

Then, with a sudden burst of confidence, Guinevere climbed onto a nearby chair.

The crowd quieted once more.

Guinevere took a small breath and smiled.

“Thank you, everyone, for coming to my birthday!” she said, her voice carrying across the gathering. “Thank you for celebrating with me and my family. I'm really happy that you're all here today!”

The crowd smiled and applauded.

Guinevere looked toward her grandmother, remembering the speech she had just given.

Then she grinned. “And now… I'd like to sing something for everyone!”

The crowd cheered.

Guinevere began to sing a little song, her young voice filling the celebration with warmth and joy.

For that moment, she wasn't the future Guardian of Green. She wasn't the vessel of an ancient spirit. She was simply Guinevere, an eight-year-old girl celebrating her birthday with the people she loved.

When Guinevere finished singing, the crowd burst into applause.

Cheers and praises filled the air as everyone admired her beautiful voice.

“What a lovely voice!”

“She sings so beautifully!”

Guinevere smiled shyly, her cheeks turning slightly pink from all the attention.

But then, something caught her eye.

A strange little creature had suddenly appeared beside her.

Guinevere froze. Her eyes widened, and she nearly jumped out of her seat. “What… is that?” She had never seen a creature like it before.

The little creature stood quietly beside her, its soft fur shimmering beneath the sunlight. It had a mixture of white and light-green fur, a long green tail, and a delicate white flower growing at the tip of its tail.

Then it made a sound. “Mrru…” The sound was soft, gentle, and surprisingly cute.

The crowd fell silent. Whispers began spreading among the people.

“What creature is that?”

“Where did it come from?”

“I've never seen anything like it…”

Among the crowd stood the eldest man in the Land of Green, Emmett Langford Iverwyn, Athea's great-great-grandfather.

Despite his old age and his weakened leg, Emmett carefully made his way toward Guinevere, supporting himself with a cane.

He stopped beside the mysterious creature and studied it carefully. His expression slowly changed. His eyes widened with recognition. “I know what this is…”

Everyone turned toward him.

Emmett knelt as much as his aching leg allowed and examined the creature more closely. “This creature is called a Mirelune,” he explained.

The people listened closely.

“A Mirelune is a rare creature described in the ancient writings. It is small and resembles a cat, but it has a long, fox-like tail. Its fur is a mixture of white and light green, and its most distinctive feature is the white flower that grows at the end of its green tail.”

Guinevere stared at the creature in amazement. The Mirelune looked back at her without fear.

Emmett's expression became serious.

“I read about these creatures when I was a teenager,” he continued. “According to the old records, Mirelunes were known as companions of the Spirit of Green.”

A murmur traveled through the crowd.

Emmett slowly looked from the Mirelune to Guinevere. His voice became quieter.“If the ancient writings are true…” He paused. “Then perhaps this creature has not appeared here by accident.”

Guinevere looked at the Mirelune.

The little creature gently brushed against her leg.

Emmett's eyes remained fixed on them.

For years, the people had believed Guinevere was chosen to become the Guardian of Green. But perhaps they had misunderstood the legend.

Perhaps Guinevere was connected to the Spirit of Green in a way far deeper than anyone had ever imagined.
